7 Strategies for Consistency and Motivation in Workouts
Striving for consistency in workouts can be challenging for any mom, but when you're a plus-size mom, the barriers can feel even more overwhelming. As a plus-sized trainer and mom of 3, I understand the unique challenges you face. In this blog post, I'll share seven effective strategies to help you find motivation, accountability, and peace while prioritizing your health and well-being.
Embrace the Journey Concept:
Acknowledge that you will not get to an “end”. And there is no linear path- our fitness journey is unique and personal. After all, your body has carried you every day so far and has its own story. Consider that taking care of your body is actually what you will have to do for the rest of your life if you want to be healthy and have a long life! This will give you the motivation to keep moving forward and be more motivated to keep going. My best tip: Celebrate each small achievement, and remember that every step forward is a victory. Even baby steps count as progress!
Invest in Accountability:
When do we ever truly do something on our own?! Hiring a personal trainer will not only be valuable to get a program build for your body and your goals, but you will have someone on your side who has no other agenda than to see you succeed. Consider what is available to you in person or virtually. Book a free call if you're interested in finding a trainer for your budget.
Set Realistic Goals:
Create achievable goals that align with your current level of fitness and lifestyle. What's hard about that? We naturally want results quickly, which leads to overwhelming expectations that could lead to burnout. Remove the all or nothing approach. You can do this by breaking down your goals into manageable steps, and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Think habit trackers and reward systems. (YES, positive reinforcement just like in potty training)
Find an Understanding Support System:
This is a game changer!! When you connect with a community of like-minded plus-size moms who share your challenges and goals, you remove the lonely journey and feel empowered. Join online forums, local fitness classes or an exclusive group coaching program like Consistency PLUS- tailored to your needs. Surrounding yourself with understanding individuals can provide the motivation and accountability you need AND bring you new friends who are on the same journey.
Prioritize Self-Care:
Recognize that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's essential for your overall well-being. Schedule regular self-care activities, whether it's a relaxing bath, a mindfulness practice, or spending time doing something you love. Self-care boosts your mood and energy, making it easier to stay consistent with workouts.
Plan for Consistency:
Schedule your workouts like appointments and treat them as non-negotiable. Find a time that works best for you and your family, whether it's early in the morning, during nap time, or after everyone's asleep. Having a consistent routine will make it easier to stick to your fitness goals.
Modify and Adapt:
Recognize that fitness is not one-size-fits-all. Modify exercises to suit your comfort level and any physical limitations you may have. A plus-sized trainer can help you create a workout plan tailored to your body and needs, ensuring a safe and effective routine.
Practice Patience and Positivity:
Ok, it’s actually 8 strategies in this blog post… but this is more of a reminder than a strategy. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day, and your fitness journey won't be either. Be patient with yourself and stay positive, even when facing setbacks. Focus on the progress you're making, both physically and mentally, and remind yourself that every step is a step forward.
As a plus-size moms, we have the strength, determination, and resilience to overcome any barriers that come our way. But when it comes to our health, we need to take action to make these things happen. By embracing our journey, setting realistic goals, building a supportive community, prioritizing self-care, planning for consistency, modifying exercises, and cultivating patience and positivity, we'll find the motivation, accountability, and peace we need to achieve our fitness goals.
Remember, you're not alone on this path, and your dedication will inspire others to embark on their own journey to wellness.
